Apart from this, the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, is paying a visit to Ukraine today only to witness and take stock of the war-hit nation.

Visiting Ukraine, Lenarčič stated, “For more than 100 days, we have witnessed unnecessary suffering and countless violations of IHL. It is our duty to stand by the most vulnerable. In view of rising needs, we are announcing a further €205M in support. The European Union is committed to supporting Ukraine as long as it takes”.

With the allocation of this additional amount, the total humanitarian assistance provided to Ukraine by the European Commission crossed the sum of 700 million.

EU then notified that it had penned down an agreement worth 7 million euro with the International Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies in order to provide mental health and psycho-social support to the Ukrainian refugees. The contract has been financed by the EU4Health programme.

According to the EU, the agreement, which will run for at least 24 months, will boost the abilities of Red Cross staff and volunteers as well as other professionals in 5 European states such as – Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and the Czech Republic.

Meanwhile, Lenarčič stated, “Today I was in Irpin. I was deeply shocked about the atrocities committed here but also elsewhere. Civilians and civilian infrastructure must not be a target, never, anywhere. Again, I most strongly condemn the deliberate Russian attacks against Ukraine civilians and civilian infrastructure”.

Apart from this, he also met with the EU humanitarian partners in Vinnytsia, Ukraine, and looked at the assistance being provided to the refugees.
