3 dies in collision of train-truck in Bulgaria; several passengers sustained injuries

Sofia, Bulgaria: The police authorities have confirmed the death of three individuals during the collision between a passenger train and truck. The incident took place at an unguarded railway crossing in northwestern Bulgaria on Tuesday, June 7, 2022. 

Meanwhile, several train passengers also sustained injuries and were immediately taken to the nearby hospital facilities. 

As per the reports of the Bulgaria police, the accident happened around 1:35 p.m. local time (1135 GMT) near Gara Oreshets. The data presented so far reveals that the three victims were drivers, of which 2 are train drivers. 

The truck carried out crushed stones for the construction works from the road which links the capital city of Bulgaria – Sofia, and the Danube port of Vidin. 

The police team, as well as the firefighters and ambulance teams, arrived at the crime scene immediately. An investigation has been initiated by the police officers into the case. 

The road accident toll has witnessed a hike in the European country of Bulgaria. According to the data shared by Bulgaria’s Interior Ministry, during the time frame of the last five months, at least 175 citizens of the Balkan state lost their lives in road accidents. 

The number of deceased is more comparative to the same period of 2021 but is less than that of 2018 and 2019. In between January to May 2022, a total of 2228 accidents were reported by the authorities in Bulgaria.  

Besides this, the blind spots and hazardous sections of roads will be repaired. These generally will be the areas where road accidents occur frequently. The announcement was made by Deputy Prime Minister and Regional Development and Public Works Minister Grozdan Karadjov. 

While making the announcement, he added, “The work of road construction will be accomplished under very strict supervision and using cutting-edge technology”. 

Besides this, it also comes on the responsibility of a citizen to abide by the traffic regulations and norms.
