EU distributes €3.5 billion to member states for offering basic necessities to Ukraine refugees

The European Commission has disbursed – a total of €3.5 billion sum amount to its member states, who at the time are providing shelter to the Ukrainian refugees. This money has been allocated so that the countries can offer food, accommodation, healthcare, education, jobs and more to those in need. 

The Commission providing the information asserted, “People fleeing the war in Ukraine need our immediate support. We have paid €3.5 billion to help EU countries welcome refugees so they can offer food, accommodation, healthcare, education, jobs and more to those in need”. 

Below is the list of the amount assigned to different EU member states: 

• Poland – €562 m
• Italy – €452 m 
• Romania – €450 m
• Estonia – €60 m
• Hungary – €299 m 
• Czech Republic Flag – €283 m
• Slovakia – €209 m 
• Bulgaria – €148 m 
• France – €123 m 
• Latvia – €8 m 
• Lithuania – €93 m 
• Denmark – €7 m 
• Austria – €74 m 
• Portugal – €63 m 
• Spain – €434 m 
• Germany – €75 m 
• Greece – €68 m 
• Sweden – €11 m 
• Croatia – €22 m 
• Ireland – €3 m 
• Finland – €5 m 
• Cyprus – €4 m 
• Slovenia – €10 m 
• Malta – €4 m 
• Belgium – €11 m 

Besides this, the Commission notified that it is suspending all of the import duties on all Ukrainian exports to the EU. 

“This week, we have proposed to suspend import duties on all the Ukrainian exports to the EU. This is another strand of the EU’s support to Ukraine’s economy beyond macro-financial assistance & grants. The EU continues to stand firmly by Ukraine”.  

The Commission is also providing temporary protection for the people fleeing the war in Ukraine, for which the eligibility criteria stand –

• Nationals who have made Ukraine their home, as well as their family members displaced by the conflict. 
• Non-Ukrainian nationals and stateless people legally living in Ukraine who cannot return to their countries of origin, such as asylum seekers and refugees and their family members. 
• Persons who fall outside these categories must be permitted access to the EU to transit prior to returning to their countries of origin.
