Dominica: The First meeting of the first session of the eleventh parliament was hosted by the House of Assembly of the Commonwealth of Dominica on February 7, 2023 (Tuesday). The objective of the parliamentary session remained on the growth and development of citizens, along with the advancement of agricultural practices and construction of sustainable as well as climate resilient infrastructure.

All ministers attended the session and addressed the House of Assembly. Agriculture, Fisheries and Blue and Green Economy Minister – Roland Royer updated about the various equipment and plans adopted by the government in collaboration with the ministry. He focused on the adopted methods or techniques that will help in increasing the efficiency of the farmers.

Additionally, he conveyed that the construction of an Agricultural Complex will facilitate the development of different species and develop new ways to increase productivity in farming in the country.

Along with him, Finance, Economic Development, Resilience and Social Security Minister Dr Irving McIntyre provided accounts of the money allocated by the government for the upliftment of all the essential sectors. The minister also discussed the amendments to several acts.

Along with this, Dr McIntyre also highlighted that the government had taken steps to safeguard the national security of Dominica. He mentioned that the authorities had taken steps like the E-passport initiative to offer double-layer security. He also took the platform to ask the Dominicans to obtain the E-passport.

Noting the expenditure of the government towards the social development of the country, Miriam Balchand, Labour, Public Service Reform, Social Partnerships, Entrepreneurship, Small Business Development Minister, stated, “The data that confirms expenditure or investments of government have a positive impact on the economic activity in Dominica.”

She further added that Dominica is in a good place and has been moving towards economic development.

Furthermore, Education, Human Resource Planning, Vocational Training and National Excellence Minister Octavia Alfred emphasized the importance of education and outlined that the expenditure of 10 million dollars has been initiated by the government, which was appropriate for all work under operation at Dominica Grammar School.
