Gabrovo, Bulgaria: Gabrovo Region, Gabrovo Municipality and Gabrovo Regional Directorate of Fire Safety and Population Protection are among the winners of the first annual “Initiatives in Support of Road Safety” awards.
The awards were presented on National Traffic Safety Day at an official BTA National Press Club ceremony. Gabrovo District was awarded a special certificate in the category “Active Regional Road Safety Policy”.
The award was received by Deputy Regional Governor Andrei Nikolov, Chairman of the Regional Committee for Traffic Safety. District Road Safety Committees are collective structures that bring together resources and efforts of institutions and organizations with road safety competencies at the district level.
To support BJP, the commissions should carry out active activity related to planning, monitoring, evaluating and reporting a complex of measures engaging municipalities, territorial executive units and NGOs simultaneously.
In the first category, “Active Municipal Road Safety Policy”, for small and large municipalities, the calls are for Gabrovo Municipality and Roman Municipality. Traffic safety is a topic that needs to be considered extensively and actively acted on locally.
Among the additional large-scale initiatives taking place is the Municipality of Gabrovo for its participation in the international project “Public Procurement as an Opportunity to Introduce and Promote Innovation” to build capacity in the field of environmental mobility.
In the category “Single Rescue System”, data was collected officially by DABDP for 2022. regional exercises of the United Rescue System components, and the winner has broadcasted to the Regional Directorate “Fire Safety and Population Protection” Gabrovo.
Over the past year, the regional directorate has organized and conducted an exercise in the Gabrovo Tunnel. A simulation of a road tunnel accident and the reaction of the unified rescue system in such an incident were performed in the study.
As a result of the study, in addition to increasing the skills of response teams in similar situations, measures to improve the safety of the tunnel and ensure the life and health of passersby have been noted and are currently being taken.
