Sofia, Bulgaria: Georgi Valentinov Georgiev, chairman of the Metropolitan Municipal Council that the Municipality has decided to erect a monument to the Bulgarian general and mayor of Sofia from 1926 to 1932, Vladimir Vazov.

He declared that the Metropolitan Municipal Council accepted their proposal for the monument of the general to be in the Poduyane district.

Georgiev highlighted that General Vladimir Vazov comes from the famous family Vazov. His brothers are a gene. -Lieutenant Georgi Vazov, Doctor Kiril Vazov, Politician Boris Vazov, Officer Mikhail Vazov and the Patriarch of Bulgarian Literature – Ivan Vazov.

He led Bulgarian units during the successful defensive operation at Doiran during World War I. The general also took part in the battles of Seliolu, Getchkenli, Luleburgaz and Chataldzha, as well as in the Second Balkan War.

Chairman Georgiev thanked his fellow advisors for supporting his proposal to pay tribute to a remarkable figure in Bulgarian history.

He also provided information about the tree incident on Sofia’s streets. On June 26, 2023, two employees of JCDecaux came at midnight and cut the crowns of trees covering the advertisement billboard.

On June 28, 2023, colleagues from the Green Systems Directorate of the Metropolitan Municipality already planted the same type of trees of similar size at the place of the two cut off.

He said, “This will repeat every time after every such “random” incident. While the commanders of this outrage learn their lesson – that in Sofia it is not possible”.

Chairman Georgiev appreciated SDVR and the Chief of the First RUP Commissioner, Ivo Zahariev, who reacted quickly to his official signal. He remarked that both perpetrators have already been identified, and the evidence will be sent to the competent prosecutor’s office for taking action against the perpetrators.
