UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, has complemented and praised the efforts being made by the European Union and its member states in safeguarding as well as providing every possible assistance to the Ukraine nationals who fled the country amid the war with Russia.

Grandi tweeted, “European support to the victims of war in Ukraine has been remarkable, especially its unified, generous response to the refugee crisis. May the same unity and generosity drive Europe’s responses to crises everywhere, in solidarity with all those who suffer and flee“.

The statement by the High Commissioner comes on Europe Day, which this year has been dedicated to the war-torn country and its population.

On the other hand, the Deputy High Commissioner UN Refugee Agency, Kelly T. Clements, cited, “On Europe Day, we remember Robert Schuman’s life-long passion to end the war in Europe. While peace across the world is still elusive, let everyone everywhere do everything possible to protect the rights + dignity of people fleeing war, conflict and persecution”.

The war between Russia and Ukraine has now entered its 75th day, and it is yet not clear when it is going to end. EU on Europe day calls on to end the war between both European countries.

Meanwhile, appreciating the efforts of EU workers, the official Twitter handle of UNHCR stated, “A warm Europe Day shout-out to our European Commission colleagues, with whom we work day in and day out to better protect forcibly displaced people around the world. Thank you for standing #WithRefugees”.

Since the beginning of the war (February 24, 2022), more than 6 million Ukraine nationals have left the war land and migrated to other countries.

“As a child, I experienced the smell, sound & devastation of war. My time in Kyiv has brought back those very painful & vivid memories of fear, pain & loss. I know the horror that people in Ukraine are experiencing & wish for peace to return – here & everywhere in the world”, stated WHO Director-General.
