Sofia, Bulgaria: The Prime Minister of Bulgaria – Kiril Petkov, is on his visit to Kyiv, Ukraine, amid the Russian invasion, where he met with his Ukrainian counterpart and with the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine – Olga Stefanishyna, on April 28, 2022.

The meeting between Ukraine’s Prime Minister – Denys Shmyhal, and PM Petkov witnessed discussions on the monetary losses faced by the war-torn country.

Providing the information about the meeting, PM Shmyhal tweeted, “Met in Kyiv with PM Kiril Petkov, where we discussed urgent needs of Ukraine caused by numerous losses of the economy. Thanked Bulgaria for military, humanitarian and financial assistance and support for EU integration of Ukraine. Grateful for the help to Ukrainians who have temporarily left the country”.

Stefanishyna cited, “Was glad to welcome Bulgarian PM Kiril Petkov today in Kyiv. Standing with Ukraine also means standing for our European future. Grateful to Bulgaria for its firm support of Ukraine’s membership in the EU”.

Prime Minister Petkov arrived in the capital of Ukraine on April 28, 2022, with a Bulgarian delegation.

The Balkan state has earlier pledged to assist and stand with Ukraine during such difficult times. So far, in thousands, the Ukraine refugees have entered the borders of Bulgaria, and many are taking shelter in the European country, which has also provided them with temporary health protection. Not only this but hundreds of Ukrainian students have also been admitted to Bulgarian educational institutions.

Ukraine has appreciated and thanked Prime Minister Petkov’s administration for their constant support and for “fundraising a campaign” for the citizens of Ukraine. PM Petkov asked the Bulgarian nationals to come forward and provide support to the war-hit country by donating money from their monthly salary.

Earlier this week only, Gazprom halted the supply of gas to Bulgaria – the decision of Russia, which gathered international criticism, including the European Commission and its member states.
