Dominica: The Carribbean airline LIAT 2020 has made its inaugural flight to Dominica marking a significant achievement for the Caribbean aviation industry. The airline was welcomed at the Doughlas Charles Airport on Thursday with an inaugural ceremony.
The Minister of Public Works, Utilities, and the Digital Economy, Fidel Grant was present at the event representing the Minister of Tourism, Denise Charles at the event.
Fidel Grant at the inauguration ceremony noted, “The arrival of LIAT is a source of considerable encouragement for Dominica and the other Caribbean governments. This airline has been a vital link for our islands, demonstrating its strength through the carrier’s regional relationship.”
The airline’s rebirth aims to improve connectivity and increase visitor arrivals to the island, and Minister Grant wished the airline great success in its future operations.
Fidel Grant was joined by the Chief Financial Officer for LIAT 2020, Conley Ibrahim, the Director of Operations for LIAT 2020, Dr Arthur Senhouse and several other members.
Senhouse during his address stated the partnership as delightful occasion and further expressed his excitement while noting that the outcome was a result of constant efforts of authorities to bring the airline in skies.
LIAT 2020 is the outcome of a collaboration between the Antigua and Barbuda government and AirPeace, with aid from a Nigerian enterprise. The collaboration will focus further on adding more destination in list for the airlines enhanced operation.
LIAT introduced the flights with a starting ticket of US$999, and stated that this is intended to introduce new air links to the region.
In September, the flight will most likely reach the Caribbean market, which includes Barbados, Grenada, Dominica, and St. Kitts and Nevis.
On the other hand, CEO Hafsaf Abdulsalam revealed that there are plans to introduce new destinations such as Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana, as well as focus on existing destinations such as Panama, Miami, and the British Virgin Islands.
However, the airline is currently operating in Saint Lucia and Antigua and Barbuda since it entered the Caribbean skies in August 2024.
