Sofia, Bulgaria – The eagerly awaited concert by British superstar Ed Sheeran in Bulgaria finally arrived, marking one of the most significant events on the country’s music calendar this year.
As part of his “Mathematics” world tour (+–=÷×), Sheeran’s performance brought a wave of excitement to Sofia’s Vasil Levski National Stadium, with over 60,000 fans filling the venue to experience the global sensation live.
The anticipation for Sheeran’s concert had been building for months. Announced last fall, tickets sold out almost immediately, a testament to the immense popularity of the singer in the small Balkan country.
The concert, organized by promoter company Fest Team, also highlighted Bulgaria’s growing presence on the global music scene, attracting international attention to the country’s live entertainment industry.
Despite the persistent rain throughout the evening, the atmosphere remained electric. Sheeran, known for his down-to-earth performances, stood alone on the vast 360-degree stage with just his guitar, delivering a two-hour set filled with his greatest hits.
The rain, rather than being a dampener, seemed to enhance the experience, with both the performer and the audience embracing the elements.
“As you know, I’m from England, and it rains a lot there. When it rains, the best concerts happen. When people get wet, they have the most fun,” Sheeran joked, eliciting cheers and laughter from the crowd.
The evening’s entertainment kicked off with a performance by Bulgaria’s very own Mihaela Fileva. The local pop sensation warmed up the crowd with a set of her popular songs, setting the tone for the night.
Fileva’s energetic performance was followed by British singer Calum Scott, who touched the audience with his emotional performance. Scott surprised fans by expressing his affection in Bulgarian, saying “obicham vi” (I love you), a gesture that earned him roaring applause.
Scott later joined Sheeran on stage for a moving duet of his hit song “You Are The Reason,” creating one of the night’s most memorable moments.
Sheeran made his entrance just after 8 p.m., greeted by an enthusiastic standing ovation. Donning a “SOFIA” t-shirt, he immediately endeared himself to the Bulgarian audience.
His setlist included some of his biggest hits, such as “Castle on the Hill,” “Shivers,” “Photograph,” “Perfect,” “Shape of You,” and “Bad Habits.” Each song was accompanied by an impressive light and fire show, amplifying the high-energy atmosphere in the stadium.
For over two hours, Sheeran kept the audience captivated, blending his soulful voice with his signature guitar melodies. The crowd sang along to every song, undeterred by the rain that continued to fall throughout the night.
Sheeran’s performance in Sofia was not just a concert but a celebration of music and connection, proving once again why he remains one of the world’s most beloved artists.
As the night drew to a close, fans left the stadium drenched but exhilarated, with memories of a spectacular evening that showcased the power of live music.
Ed Sheeran’s concert in Bulgaria was a testament to the country’s growing role as a host for major international artists, leaving fans eager for more world-class performances in the future.
