Roseau, Dominica: Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, extended the greetings of Easter to the island Populace yesterday through his social media account.

He wrote, “My dear friends, I extend Easter greetings from the Government of Dominica and my family”. Yesterday, Easter was celebrated worldwide as it was believed that on this day, Lord Jesus Christ rose from his tomb after three days when he died on the Cross three days before during Good Friday.

Good Friday and Easter both have colossal significance in Christianity. Easter was the day of celebration as it was believed that Jesus was risen from his tomb, defeating death.

It was written by the Apostle Paul, who spread Jesus’ teachings in the first century. It means Christ’s death for sin has changed how he regards people. Instead of looking at each person as a mere human being, he must view those who are in Christ as something entirely different.

For the resident of Dominica, Easter is a time of reflection and taking a break from daily life by implementing some changes. It is when everyday life is interrupted by processions, changes in eating habits and, in many cases, many entertaining public parades.

Parades were organized in which numerous people walked in the streets spreading the Easter message and teaching God’s message. Theatres were also performed, displaying the events that happened during Easter, like portraying the resurrection of Jesus.

Since its origin, Easter has come to be associated with joy and feasting. Various regional variations of the tradition exist, including egg rolling, egg tapping, pace egging, cascarones or confetti eggs, and egg decorating.

There are many ways to celebrate Easter. Throughout the world, Easter is celebrated by remembering the central miracle of Jesus’ resurrection after three days, as he mentioned before. The other methods were Hot Cross Buns, Easter Cards, Sports and Games, making Easter Cards and Egg hunts.
