Dominica: Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, recently met with the members of Afreximbank. The meeting was held during the ending of the 44th Heads of the Government of CARICOM Community meeting in The Bahamas, a country in the Caribbean Region.
The Africa-Caribbean Bank shared the update regarding the meeting through social media. It stated that Afreximbank held a meeting with some Heads of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Government on the sidelines of the Forty-fourth Heads of Government of CARICOM – the Caribbean Community.
The meeting by Afreximbank was also attended by other leaders, including Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne; Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J Pierre; and Prime Minister of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew. The ministers were greeted by Prof Oramah, who introduced the Bank along with some of its facilities as well as discussed various ways the Bank can support the OECS countries.
Along with this, Prof Oramah led a delegation of the Afreximbank and met with another Caribbean Prime Minister, Mia Amor Mottley. During the meeting with the Prime Minister of Barbados, various issues were discussed during the meeting, including the Bank’s ongoing support of the nation and region via the pipeline of projects, the next AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF). Barbados hosted the inaugural event in the year 2022. Another fruitful discussion emphasised the Bank’s decision to open a regional office in the Caribbean.
The meeting witnessed another important signing. The Bank informed that Barbados was the first to sign and ratify the Partnership Agreement between the CARICOM Member States and Afreximbank.
Additionally, the Partnership Agreement was also signed by the President of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali. According to the update by the Bank, during a handing over ceremony, President Irfaan Ali of Guyana handed over the ratification document to the President of Afreximbank, Prof Benedict Oramah, on the sidelines of the 44th meeting of the Heads of Government of the CARICOM.
