Marking Peacekeeping Day or PK Day, the Secretary-General of the United Nations – António Guterres, reminded the world population that the previous year witnessed the demise of at least 117 women & men of the United Nations peacekeeping during their services.

The International Day of United Nations Peacekeeping is observed on May 29, 2022, every year. The day offers a chance to pay tribute to the uniformed and civilian personnel’s invaluable contribution to the work of the Organization.

Guterres asserted, “Last year, 117 women & men of the United Nations peacekeeping lost their lives while serving the cause of peace. As we mark PKDay, we honour their memory and pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of all fallen peacekeepers. We will never forget them”.

On the other hand, the official Twitter handle of the UN Peacekeeping cited, “PKDay is an opportunity to thank all peacekeepers for their service & sacrifice. Our Head, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, explains this year’s theme: People Peace Progress – The Power of Partnerships. Standing alone, we can never succeed. But together, we are strong & changing lives for the better”.

Meanwhile, in view of Amina J Mohammed – who holds the post of Deputy Secretary-General of the UN, partnerships, trust and solidarity play an important role in peacekeeping.

“Ahead of PK Day, I salute all the brave women and men serving for a more peaceful tomorrow”, following the above statement, she then underscored.

The international organisation saluted the men and women who sacrificed their lives just to bring peace to the world.

The UN News Arabic tweeted, “On Peacekeepers Day, the United Nations honours the memory of the men and women who gave their lives in the service of peace. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres laid a wreath at a memorial in honour of the souls of more than 4,200 people who gave their lives in the line of duty.
