Dominica: Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit met with Santiago De Wit Guzman, who is the Titular Archbishop of Gabala, Apostolic Nuncio to the Commonwealth of Dominica. The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s office in Roseau, Dominica.
Upon meeting him PM Skerrit has shared the glimpses on his social media handles and expressed that he is glad and was honoured to welcome the most reverend Santiago De Wit Guzman, Titular Archbishop of Gabala, Apostolic Nuncio to the Commonwealth of Dominica for a courtesy call on Wednesday, May 16, 2024.
Prime Minister added that Santiago De Wit Guzman has earlier presented his letter of credence to the President of the Commonwealth of Dominica – Sylvanie Burton and met with her.
Reportedly, the Titular Archbishop of Gabala was accompanied by Archbishop of Castries, Saint Lucia, Bishop Elect of the Diocese of Roseau – Kendrick Forbes and Josue Frederic Ilboudo.
While paying his visit to the president of Dominica Sylvanie Burton, Santiago De Wit Guzman has noted the holy see and Dominica has enjoyed a strong and cordial diplomatic relationship at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
Considering the meeting, Sylvanie Burton has emphasised that unity is essential in addressing the global challenges that the world faces daily. The president highlighted that Dominica and other small islands developing states that are particularly affected by the escalating global issues need support of the international community.
Santiago De Wit Guzman is a Spanish prelate of the Catholic Church who works in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. Currently he is holding the position of Apostolic Nuncio of Trinidad and Tobago, Antigua and Barbuda, Berlize, Grenada, Guyana, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and Grenadines, Suriname, Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Jamaica and Saint Lucia.
Guzman is also Apostolic Delegate to the Antilles Titular Archbishop of Gabala and was appointed as a predecessor of the Fortunatus Nwachukwu on July 30 in 2022.
Earlier, Pope Francis appointed him as Titular Archbishop of Gabala and Apostolic Nuncio to the Central African Republic on March 21, 2017.
Later on, March 25, Guzman was named as nuncio to Chad as well, he then received his episcopal consecration on June 10 from Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.
