Sofia, Bulgaria: The URBiNAT project shared the details of the ongoing Construction of the Green Corridor of Health in the “Hope” district, which is progressing with full force. In the coming days, the existing pedestrian bridge at Nadezhda Park will be replaced with a new, wider one.

In the “Green Square” zone, the amphitheatre and the laying of flooring for the park lanes are actively working. Urban furniture, waste bins and lighting fixtures are to be installed.

In the “Living Water” zone, the foundations of the school greenhouse with a classroom that will be heated with mineral water from the spring in the yard of 15. SU “Adam Mickiewicz”. Placing the pipes for the water supply and constructing the actual greenhouse structure is ahead.

In the Energy for Health zone, the foundations for the combined sports courts are ready; particular flooring is to be laid. Installation of the new playground equipment on the existing playground in the area is currently underway.

In the “Sovmyasto” zone, the construction of the planned eco-parking and alleys to the Northern Park is underway. Additional vegetation will be planted within the scope of the future Corridor, as well as a series of events for residents in the area.

The ritual first dig of the Green Corridor of Health in the Hope District was performed by Mayor Yordanka Fandakova. She commented that the Green Corridor is an essential step towards providing a better quality and socially functional living environment for the citizens of the area.

The mayor of Sofia appreciated the EU and the URBiNAT for the ongoing development in Sofia. The EU H2020 Programme is funding URBiNAT, a five-year initiative that will run from 2018 to 2023. Its goal is to revitalise underserved urban districts by collaborating on Nature-Based Solutions (NBS).
