The event is carried out with the support of the National Fund “Culture” and the Light-1922 NGO, the village of Skalsko. A new symphony orchestra was established in 1991 by music critic Julia Hristova as an alternative to our existing musical institutions, supported financially and controlled by the state.

For the 32 years of its existence, the New Symphony Orchestra has created its cultural model and its society of friends dedicated to the life of the cultural institution unique to Bulgaria.

A base for the orchestra was opened in 1990. from Julia Hristova Concert House, which approves its unique system of working with young musicians and for the organization and financing of the orchestra. “We worked for creation, not survival,” says the orchestra’s creator, Julia Hristova.

Ideally, the New Symphony Orchestra is both a school and an institution that gathers young and talented Bulgarian musicians under its wing with no experience on the concert scene but a desire to work and improve.

To date, more than 900 musicians have played in the orchestra, whose average age is 25-27 years old. Musicians from the New Symphony Orchestra school work in the most prominent Bulgarian orchestras and opera theatres, in orchestras in the United States, Latin America, South Africa, and Western and Central Europe.

The orchestra accepts music students as the leading principles in working with them are respect for personal opinion, equal opportunity and a flexible work system. “The ultimate goal of our work is not the concert, but the love of the process of “music making” – says Julia Hristova.

Since the orchestra was founded, its music program has combined famous classical pieces with little-known and unperformed works. The diverse repertoire and adaptive organization – from a chamber composition to a large ensemble, allowed the New Symphony Orchestra to gain its honourable place in the cultural life of Bulgaria.
