US President Joe Biden took a stand in favour of giving the controversial mass destruction cluster bombs to Ukraine. The United States is going to decide to supply these bombs as part of arms support to Kyiv to strengthen the counterattack against Russia.

But the bomb has a horrific record of civilian casualties and has been banned by more than 120 countries. US President Joe Biden said it took him some time to make this very difficult decision.

However, he opined that “the Ukrainians are running out of ammunition”. Ukraine has welcomed this US move calling this decision “timely”. On the other hand, an ambassador of Moscow strongly condemned Washington in this incident.

In an interview on Friday, Biden told CNN that he had spoken to allies about the decision ahead of next week’s NATO summit in Lithuania. According to the White House, the US administration has long withheld the delivery of cluster bombs to Ukraine out of concern that unexploded bombs could harm civilians.

However, Ukraine has repeatedly asked Western allies, including the United States, over the past few months, for arms. The country has been calling for quick delivery of its arsenal before it runs out.

US National Security Adviser Jack Sullivan said at a Friday White House briefing that Ukraine had committed to minimizing potential civilian casualties. He said Ukraine is running out of ammunition. So there is a need to supply more ammunition.

He said, “We cannot leave Ukraine unprotected during this conflict.” Russia is also using cluster bombs in the war, Sullivan said. Safer than the cluster bombs the US is giving Ukraine.
