The World Health Organisation (WHO) recognized June 14 as blood donor day in 2004 to highlight the vital role blood donors play in saving the lives of numerous people worldwide. Additionally, it encourages people to increase blood donation rates and guarantees that safe blood transfusions are available everywhere.

Minister Drew suggested to the residents of St Kitts and Nevis that it is important to donate blood as patients need blood to survive operations, cancer treatments, chronic illnesses, and severe traumas.

This life-saving treatment is made possible by one person’s generous donation. So it is essential to come forward and donate blood to save lives and prevent a family from losing their loved ones.

The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis added that before donating blood to a patient in need, a donor should take a test to ensure they are free of blood-borne illnesses or other issues.

He said giving blood is one of the most incredible acts of kindness and solidarity because it can save lives and bring people back together. Additionally, PM Drew stated that giving blood is safe. However, the donor must pay attention to their food after giving blood to avoid feeling weakness in their body.

Minister Drew also acknowledged the residents of St Kitts and Nevis that donating blood benefits both the receiver and the donor. He stated several benefits of donating blood to the donor, such as improving the heart’s health.

Additionally, the donor receives a Mini Check-Up, with whom they receive every detail about their body and maintains good health by making some adjustments. The individual can keep iron levels in check.
