In partnership with the Department of Health and Resolve to Save Lives, WHO Philippines marked the completion of the two-year Healthy Hearts Programme in Western Visayas in a ceremonial handover to stakeholders last 1-2 December 2022.

Representatives from the seven pilot municipalities in District 1 of Iloilo Province shared their best practices and impact on communities. Dr Adriano Suba-an, Regional Director IV of DOH Center for Health Development Western Visayas, highlighted the role of the local government units in the effective implementation of the Healthy Hearts Programme.

“Our local government units are proactive in the implementation of the programme. They helped in the procurement of anti-hypertensive medications, capacity enhancement of health workers, and implementation of the National Hypertension Protocol,” said Dr Subaan.

“We give special commendation to our health care workers for your inspiring commitment and to our local chief executives at District 1 for your strong leadership. You have made significant progress in ensuring that your constituents, who are people living with NCDs and hypertension, have access to the health services they need in a people-centred manner.

You have shown how important it is to put an end to NCDs and to leave no one behind,” said Dr Yui Sekitani, Acting NCD Team Lead, WHO Philippines.
