Sofia, Bulgaria: Desislava Bileva, deputy mayor of Stolich, informed through her social media account that The capital’s 131 kindergartens in the district “Monastery Meadows” yesterday became another educational institution in Sofia, which received a bin for the separate waste collection of paper, plastic and metal.

She commented that in a special event that turned into an actual holiday for the kids and staff of the new and wonderful garden, the children found out how and why they needed to recycle. Bileva announced that the host of the event was Simo Kolev, and the special guest was the mayor of Triaditsa municipality, Dimitar Bozhilov.

The children greeted Bozhilov with a song and learned with great interest how important it is to collect waste separately and be ambassadors of this initiative. Little Annie Nikolova, a child present during the event, was the first to demonstrate how to use the bear-shaped bin.

The Mayor of Stolich, Desislava Bileva, thanked the Metropolitan Municipality for the initiative and the responsible attitude. Mr Bozhilov told the children how useful it is to recycle waste to enjoy cleaner nature and environment.

He stressed the importance of cooperation between the municipality, collection companies and children’s institutions to have more such initiatives.

The most active and initiative children received fun and very useful recycling booklets, and each one deservedly got a special sticker.

Mayor Bileva expressed that she is delighted to have been part of this colourful and smiling event. The kindergarten is new, extremely welcoming, with excellent teachers. She noted that the principal Mrs Koteva is an example of how with willingness and initiative, one can change the environment we live.

The Mayor of Stolich further remarked that she believes children from a young age must learn good habits, such as dividing and then passing them on at home. “I am proud that Metropolitan Municipality is part of this change”, said Beliva during the event.

She reminded that within the initiative, such waste collection bins will receive a total of 195 gardens in the territory of the Metropolitan Municipality. A particular compost container was also left in the school yard where children can dispose of grass and food waste to be recycled.
