The Bulgarian Embassy in Hanoi co-hosted two events in Hanoi and Hochiminh city to announce the coming out of print of the Bulgarian-Vietnamese Dictionary.
The Dictionary is a joint publication of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and the University of Veliko Tarnovo “St. Cyril and Methodius”. It represents the second revised and supplemented edition of the only existing Bulgarian-Vietnamese dictionary from 1984, created for the needs of the Vietnamese youth studying in Bulgaria.
It was implemented under a project, “Improving the Quality of Foreign Language Learning through Modernization of Foreign Language Teaching Tools”, financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria with beneficiaries the University of Social Sciences and Humanities-Hanoi National University.
The new Dictionary boasts improved micro and macrostructure, revising more than 40,000 entries and including 20,000 new ones. The publication in March 2023 of a modern Bulgarian-Vietnamese dictionary is a culmination of valuable academic work by its authors from Bulgaria and Vietnam.
It is an example of a successful collaboration among academic, state and scientific institutions of both countries and, above all, among the few remaining specialists in both languages in Bulgaria and Vietnam.
The Bulgarian-Vietnamese dictionary, second revised and supplemented edition 2023, is undoubtedly the result of the close and cordial relations of friendship between Bulgaria and Vietnam, based on mutual understanding and respect.
It indicates their more than seventy years of cooperation and mutual assistance history. Today it will be a valuable tool for a wide range of readers and users: students, teachers, translators, artists and culture workers, scientists, politicians and all those who are engaged in the development of Bulgaria-Vietnam relations.
