The prize in the competition for the Bulgarian Novel of the Year organized by the National Donating Fund “13 Centuries Bulgaria” (NDF) will be presented on May 11 at 5:30 pm. in the professor hall Vasil Gerov “in the Central Administration Building of the Fund.
This year, 28 novels published in 2022 participated in the competition.
The jury, whose names will be kept secret until the day of the award, identified the six nominated works and their authors.
Following is the list of the novels appointed for Novel of the Year 2023

2. “Stars Under the Eyelids” by Nikolay Terziyski, ed. Jeanette – 45
3. “Late Death” by Ivan Stankov, ed. “Hermes”
4. “Hagabula” by Todor Todorov, ed. Jeanette – 45
5. “Flesh and Craft” by Vasil Panayotov, ed. “Fame+”
6. “Chemistry of the Joke” by Mikhail Veshim, Ed. “The Force”
The NDF “13 Centuries Bulgaria” created the competition in 2011 and aimed to promote and popularize contemporary literature. Writers and publishers with novels published in the previous award presentation year can apply.
Bulgaria currently has a population of close to 6,500,000 people, and a 2007 poll by the pollster Alpha Research found that roughly 58 per cent of Bulgarians read books. In the country, reading books, reading novels, and writing literature are widespread.
The Peach Thief by Emiliyan Stanev, September by Geo Milev, Under The Yoke by Ivan Vazov, The Windmill by Elin Pelin, and Depths by Dora Gabe are notable contemporary Bulgarian literary works that are well-known internationally.
