Saint Lucia:Â Following a vehicle stop on the Gold Coast yesterday (January 2) that netted $2 million worth of drugs, police have accused a 48-year-old Thornlands man of trafficking heroin and methylamphetamine.
Police attempted to stop a car at Elanora on the M1 motorway at around 3.50 p.m. The male driver and only occupant allegedly didn’t stop and took off.
The man’s car allegedly collided with an unmarked police car on K P McGrath Drive in Elanora, refused to stop there, and continued to Currumbin, where the man reportedly fled on foot after abandoning the vehicle near the intersection of Thrower and Hooper drives.
The man is also alleged to have thrown a suitcase he was carrying into a nearby trash can before being stopped and taken into custody by police in Hooper Street.
Ten kilogrammes of methylamphetamine, according to the police, were allegedly found in the luggage, and some heroin was discovered during the man’s search.
$2 million is the estimated street value of the drugs that were seized.
The man has been charged by police with 30 counts of supplying dangerous drugs, two counts of trafficking dangerous drugs, and possessing dangerous drugs, as well as one count each of serious assault on a police officer, eluding police, operating a vehicle dangerously, and having items used in the commission of a crime.
He was refused police bail, and today he will appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court.
