After heavy rainfall in the regions of Bogdon and Karavelovo, an unexpected flood occurred, and the situation is getting worse. It is estimated that rain over Klisura was 191 litres per square meter. Due to the overflowing of Stryama river passes, the condition is critical in several villages. Traffic is also affected due to the collapse of the Troyan-Karnare pass.
There is still no information about dead or injured people in Bogdon and Karavelovo. The village of Karavelovo has experienced a water crisis unlike any other. This situation is still difficult. Only the primary route to the village of Banya, divided into three units by water, provides access to the settlement; however, the bridge is closed even there.
Today, the river absorbed the bridges that once connected Karavelovo to nearby towns. Moreover, the Sub-Balkan route was inundated. The Stryama river physically overtook a house and a canning and food preservation company in the village of Stoletovo.
Commissioner Nikolov, director of the General Directorate of Fire Safety and Protection, said, ” We are making every possible effort. Three people from Ribarnitsi near the village of Moskovets need assistance. I advise the people to go to higher levels of their homes instead of waiting to be rescued. If the weather allows, a helicopter will arrive to rescue 5-6 people, including a pregnant woman. Military, police, volunteers and firefighters are assisting to control the situation”.
Pontoon bridges will be used to transport people due to the wrecked bridges, which are presently being prepared by the military, BNT and BNR teams in Bogdan. According to Commissioner Nikolov, numerous boats are headed to the location, but they can’t be used immediately due to the high water level.
