Sofia, Bulgaria: The Health Ministry of the European country, in a press briefing today (June 23), informed that a total of two new cases of monkeypox were recorded in the country.
The ministry then informed that the patients of the outbreak are of forty-one (41) and forty-four (44) years, respectively, and at the present time are in the capital city of the country, Sofia. However, both of them are in good terms, as per the reports.
The statement of the health ministry then informed that the medical institutions confirmed the laboratory samples at the National Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases by specific real-time PCR analysis. Moreover, the epidemiological study is going on in both cases.
“There is currently an outbreak of monkeypox in some countries that do not normally have cases. There are most of people who recover fully without any treatment, but in some cases, people can get seriously ill. It is called ‘monkeypox’ because it was first found in monkeys. While the risk to the general public is low, WHO is responding to this outbreak as a high priority”, stated the World Health Organisation.
Below are the symptoms of monkeypox-
- Rash with blisters on face, hands, feet, body, eyes, mouth or genitals.
- Fever
- Swollen Lymph nodes
- Headaches
- Muscle and back aches
- Low energy
It can be spread via skin-to-skin contact, face-to-face contact, mouth-to-skin contact and touching infected bedding, towels, clothing or objects.
WHO advised the people with the symptoms to get advice from a health worker, isolate themselves in their homes, and protect others by avoiding close contact with them and wearing a mask and avoiding touching if one needs to have close contact.
The region of Europe is considered the epicentre of the monkeypox.
Meanwhile, the first Emergency Committee meeting regarding the multi-country monkeypox outbreak has started.
