Bulgaria: 101 613 Ukrainians receives temporary protection

Since the Russian invasion, there are a total of 101 613 Ukrainians who got themselves registered for temporary protection in the Balkan state of Bulgaria. The statistics have been shared on the Bulgarian government’s information portal on May 11, 2022.

From February 24, 2022, a total of 250 267 Ukraine nationals entered the borders of Bulgaria, out of which 104 017 remained in the country.

According to the Bulgarian government’s data, so far, a total of 59 085 Ukrainians have been provided accommodations in the European country.

The Bulgarian government earlier pledged to support and provide Ukraine refugees with the required amenities while granting them shelter in the country.

On the other hand, as per the data of the United Nations refugee agency – UNHCR, nearly 6 million Ukraine nationals fled the war land. The majority of them went to take shelter in Poland, which is for more than 3.2 million Ukraine refugees. The data is from the beginning till May 9, 2022.

Meanwhile, 8 million Ukraine nationals have been internally displaced, according to the data shared by the International Organization for Migration, as of May 3, 2022.

The war between Russia and Ukraine has entered its 76th day. Since then, several sanctions on Russia have been imposed by the countries as well as international organisations such as – United Nations and World Health Organisation.

The Health Ministry of Ukraine cited, “WHO provided Ukraine with equipment for the safe storage of blood. These are 34 pharmaceutical refrigerators in which blood can be stored. Most of them are now being transported to different regions of the country. We thank our international partners for their support”.

“Ukraine demands to freeze russia’s voting rights in the WHO and relocate the WHO’s European Office for the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD Office) from Moscow”.
