World witnesses over 14.9 million deaths due to COVID

As per the official data shared by the World Health Organisation, since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, at least 14.9 million people across the globe have succumbed to mutant. The data was shared by WHO on Thursday, May 5, 2022.

The organisation stated, “The total number of deaths associated with COVID19 worldwide from 2020-2021 may be closer to 14.9 million: New estimates by WHO & UNDESA. That’s 9.5 million more deaths than reported”.

“Excess mortality is calculated as the difference between the number of deaths that have occurred and the number that would be expected in the absence of the COVID19 pandemic”.

These new estimates are the result of close consultation with countries & regions, supported by the work of the Technical Advisory Group for COVID-19 Mortality Assessment, who have developed a new methodology to generate comparable mortality estimates even where data are incomplete.

The world health organisation further asked the general population to follow the COVID-19 norms and regulations, reminding them that the fight against the outbreak is not over yet.

To date, there are a total of 5,152,338,474 individuals who have taken their at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, representing around 66.1% of the total targeted eligible population of the world.

On the other hand, there are a total of 4,669,500,363 individuals globally who have taken their required number of the WHO-approved COVID-19 vaccines and are now fully vaccinated against the virus. This number of individuals is representing around 59.9% of the total targeted eligible population of the world.

Meanwhile, there are a total of 1,879,318,396 individuals who are fully vaccinated and have also taken their third dose which is booster shots of the COVID-19 vaccines, computing for nearly 24.1% of the total targeted eligible population of the world.
