World: The Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO) – Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus calls on Russia to end the war immediately, amid a heavy number of civilian casualties. The appeal comes as the WHO DG condemns the actions of the Russian military.Â
He added that since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the international health agency had recorded at least 147 attacks, in which at least seventy-three Ukrainian nationals lost their lives, leaving fifty-three injured.
Dr Ghebreyesus tweeted, “WHO unequivocally condemns the continued increase in attacks on health care in Ukraine. They must stop. To date, WHO has verified 147 attacks, including 73 people killed and 53 injured. War will not be a solution. Once again, I call on Russia to end the war.”Â
Today is the 55th day of the Russian military’s invasion of Ukraine. After Donbas, the Russian forces entered the strategic port city of Mariupol and warned, “Immediately lay down arms“.Â
In response to this, Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky’s adviser – Oleksiy Arestovych, stated, “The fight for the Donbas, which was announced and apparently began yesterday, is underway and is going very cautiously”.Â
“The battle will not go in Russia’s favour,” claims President’s adviser.Â
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian President, in a recent statement, said, “We can now ensure that Russian troops have commenced the battle for the Donbas, which they have been preparing for a long time. No matter how many Russian soldiers are brought here, we will fight. We will defend ourselves”.Â
On the other end, the deputy prime minister Iryna Vereshchuk informed that today (April 19, 2022), there would be no humanitarian corridor.Â
In the Russian military missile attack yesterday (April 18, 2022), at least six people lost their lives in the western city of Lviv. The ongoing war has forced more than 4.9 million Ukrainian nationals to flee from the war-hit country for the sake of safeguarding their lives.Â
