The ‘World Immunization Week’ has already commenced from today onwards – an initiative of WHO, which aims to outline the significance and need of taking the COVID-19 vaccine.

The international health agency asserted, “It’s #WorldImmunizationWeek! If you could see viruses, you would know that they are all around. Vaccines provide opportunity & hope for all of us to enjoy ​a more fulfilling life. ​That is something we should all be fighting for.​ COVID Vaccines, in the pursuit of a long life for all”.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the World Health Organisation – Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, emphasized the significance of getting vaccinated and of the world immunization week.

He tweeted, “Although vaccines have been around for centuries, there are still significant challenges getting these life-saving tools to the people who need them the most. This #WorldImmunizationWeek is the moment to get essential immunization back on track and offer the chance of a #LongLifeForAll”.

According to the official data, to date, there are a total of 5,125,207,873 individuals who have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and are now partially vaccinated. This number of individuals represents around 65.7% of the total targeted eligible population.

On the other hand, a total of 4,632,178,666 individuals are fully vaccinated by receiving their required number of the WHO-approved COVID-19 vaccines. This number of individuals accounts for nearly 59.4% of the total targeted eligible population.

There are a total of 1,821,801,574 individuals who are fully vaccinated and have also taken their third dose, which is booster shots of the COVID-19 vaccines, representing about 23.4% of the global eligible population, as per the official data till April 23, 2022.
