As per the official information provided, there are nearly 90% of Ukrainian refugees who have received the status of temporary protection in the European country. Under this status, the Ukrainian nationals will be getting access to – health care, education, and the right to work in the Balkan state.

The Refugee Protection Adviser at the UN High Commission for Refugees in Bulgaria – Petya Karayaneva, speaking on a radio channel, stated that Bulgaria is among the nations that have provided maximum Ukrainian nationals with the temporary protection.

The Bulgarian government sharing the data stated that 87 534 had registered themselves to obtain temporary protection.

The official data adds that since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic (February 24, 2022), a total of 218 849 Ukraine refugees have entered the borders of Bulgaria, of which 96 930 remained in the European country.

Today is the 66th day of the Russia-Ukraine war.

“Forced to flee extraordinary levels of violence, refugees from Ukraine have left behind their homes and often their families. We’re in neighbouring countries like Moldova to meet the protection and humanitarian needs, which continue to grow. But what they really need is peace”, UNHRC – the UN Refugee Agency stated.

In addition, the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, this week visited the war-hit country, where he met with the Ukrainian President and expressed his condolences to the ones who died amid the Russian military invasion.

“I was moved by the resilience & bravery of the people of Ukraine. My message to them is simple – We will not give up. The United Nations will redouble its efforts to save lives and reduce human suffering. In this war, as in all wars, the civilians always pay the highest price”, the Secretary-General stated.
