Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: On May 15, 2023, Terrance Drew, the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, recently addressed the Diaspora of St Kitts and Nevis living in New York, United States of America.
The meeting occurred at the Bronx’s Church of the Holy Nativity (Banquet Hall), 3061 Bainbridge Avenue. During the meeting, the prime minister greeted his fellow citizens as well as taking action to improve their relationship.
Minister Drew used his official social media account to post updates about his trip to New York. Along with addressing some of the most important issues of shared national interest, he also emphasised his pride and honour at being there with St Kitts and Nevis Diaspora in New York.
In his explanation of the meeting’s main highlight, PM Drew mentioned the opportunity he had to speak with each person individually.
After hearing their concerns, the Diaspora of St Kitts and Nevis was given assurances about moving forward on a progressive route by the Prime Minister of the Twin Island Federation.
Additionally, he noted that the Diaspora community in New York is an essential component of the Twin Island Federation because they serve as ambassadors for the country abroad.
Prime Minister Terrance Drew said in his remarks, “I had the unique chance of engaging with fellow nationals in New York at a Diaspora Meeting” while providing updates about the conference. I made This deliberate business decision to continue a close connection with Kittitians and Nevisians living overseas”.
He also emphasised how important it is for our people to be constantly informed about happenings in their country.
In his speech, he also stressed the importance of keeping the Diaspora in the country informed about changes and new policies being implemented.
In addition, he added, “I must commend the numerous Diaspora organisations that continue to assist our country and uphold a close bond with their native place. Our workforce is gifted and has a wide range of skills.
PM Drew stated, “I am aware of several of our citizens within the Diaspora who have special interests and skills that we can draw upon for the further development of our beloved Federation,” noting the crucial role played by his brother nations in New York.
He added, “I encourage you to indicate that you would like to contribute. I rely on you and your ability to help me and your fellow citizens here and abroad grow our country”.
The prime minister ended by expressing his gratitude and emphasising that “the meeting was quite successful” due to the significant participation. I’m eager for upcoming engagements. Glenroy Blanchette, the permanent secretary in the prime minister’s office, also attended the meeting.
