Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, remarked that yesterday, the twin island federation remarks twenty-eight years of diplomatic relations between the twin-island Federation and Cuba.

Minister Drew said on his official Facebook page, “28 years of diplomatic relations between StKitts and Nevis and the Republic of Cuba. We value the relationship between our nations and look forward to many more years of continued partnership”.

PM Drew mentioned that St Kitts and Nevis had a friendly relationship with Cuba for twenty-eight years, and they aim to strengthen this friendship by enhancing their diplomatic ties and trading activities.

Twenty-eight years ago, on May 10, 1995, Cuba, St Christopher, and Nevis established diplomatic relations, starting a solid bond between both countries. Since then, these two countries have cultivated a positive and deepening relationship.

St Kitts and Nevis have maintained a strong connection with Cuba for the past 20 years, mainly through their collaboration in the healthcare sector.

This began in 1996 and topped in the establishment of the first Cuban medical brigade in the Federation in 2003. Presently, there are 14 healthcare professionals involved in this partnership, and more are expected to join soon.

Over 100 students from St Kitts and Nevis have received professional training from Cuba. These students have graduated from Cuban universities and pursued medical sciences, economics, and engineering careers. Currently, more than 30 young individuals from St Kitts and Nevis are studying in Cuba.

St Kitts & Nevis and Cuba share common objectives related to climate change, human development, social integration, economic development, and minimizing the impact of natural disasters. Both countries believe that Together, through cooperation and concerted action, they can tackle any upcoming concern.
