British Airlines will provide twice-weekly direct flights from Guyana to Saint Lucia in an effort to boost regional security. Ernest Hilaire, Member of Parliament for Castries South and the Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, has provided this information on the expansion of the Caribbean country’s tourism industry.

Deputy Prime Minister Ernest Hilaire posted the following information on the maiden flight to his official social media account and said “Yesterday was a momentous day for Saint Lucia and regional connectivity”.

“On the first flight from London to Guyana with connectivity through Saint Lucia, the Saint Lucia Tourist Authority (SLTA), the Saint Lucia Ministry of Tourism, and other stakeholders, such as the Saint Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association (SLHTA), were all a part of a delegation”.

It was mentioned that the inaugural flight from London to the island nation of Guyana with connectivity through Saint Lucia was attended by representatives of the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority, the Ministry of Tourism, and other stakeholders of the Saint Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association (SLHTA).

Deputy PM Hilaire wrote on social media that the trip, which runs on Mondays and Thursdays, “presents new prospects for our tourism sector and investment opportunities for both economies. We must work together to investigate the export potential for our locals to Guyana as the country’s economy maintains its upward growth trajectory.

Minister Hilaire continued, “The Minister of Tourism, Industry and Trade of Guyana accompanied us on the maiden return leg of the flight with service from Guyana to Saint Lucia and then London. She is keen to explore any possibilities that may benefit Guyanese and Saint Lucians in our conversations”.

Deputy PM Ernest Hilaire welcomed the flight and wished it well in the future on behalf of Saint Lucia.
