Sunny Beach, Bulgaria – July 24, 2024 — In a tragic turn of events, a 7-year-old boy was struck by a bus in Sunny Beach last night.

The incident, reported by BNR, occurred around 7:30 p.m. near the “Continental” bus stop. The bus, a “MAN” with Sofia plates, was driven by a 65-year-old man who hit the child as he was crossing the road for reasons that remain unclear.

The young boy, from the village of Gyulovtsa, sustained injuries to his left leg, including his lower leg and thigh.

He was immediately rushed to the “Shock Room” at Burgas Hospital. Thankfully, his injuries, though serious, are not life-threatening, according to medical officials.

Witnesses at the scene described a chaotic situation as the bus came to an abrupt stop after the collision. Passersby quickly gathered, offering assistance and calling emergency services.

Authorities are currently investigating the exact circumstances that led to the accident, and the driver of the bus is cooperating with the investigation.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about pedestrian safety in the busy tourist area of Sunny Beach, which sees a significant influx of visitors during the summer season.

Local residents have repeatedly called for improved road safety measures, including more pedestrian crossings and better signage, to prevent such accidents.

In a separate incident reported today by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a truck with Burgas registration, driven by a 74-year-old resident of Pomorie, failed to yield at the roundabout of Stefan Stambolov and Yakim Yakimov streets.

The truck collided with an Opel Zafira with Varna plates, which was moving legally through the roundabout.

The driver of the Opel, a 43-year-old man from Yasenovo, Rouen, managed to escape serious injury. However, a 58-year-old woman from Struya, Rouen, who was a passenger in the Opel, sustained a chest injury.

She was taken to the Heart and Brain Hospital for treatment, where she is currently receiving medical care.

Eyewitnesses reported that the truck appeared to be moving at a high speed when it entered the roundabout, giving the Opel Zafira little chance to avoid the collision.

The force of the impact caused significant damage to both vehicles, scattering debris across the road and leading to temporary traffic disruptions.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation into the incident, focusing on whether driver error or other factors contributed to the crash.

Initial reports suggest that the truck driver may have been unaware of the roundabout’s layout, leading to the failure to yield.

These two incidents have sparked renewed calls for enhanced road safety measures in the region.

Local authorities are under pressure to address the growing concerns of residents and visitors alike, particularly during the busy summer months when road traffic increases significantly.

Both incidents serve as stark reminders of the importance of road safety and vigilance for all road users.

As investigations continue, authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further accidents.

Residents and officials alike hope that these unfortunate events will lead to stricter enforcement of traffic laws and the implementation of measures to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists throughout the region.
