Sofia, Bulgaria: Georgi Valentinov Georgiev, chairman of the Metropolitan Council, Wished Bulgaria a happy ”World Heart Day”. On September 29, the world celebrates World Heart Day to raise awareness about heart diseases and provide adequate measures to help prevent cardiovascular diseases.

The Chairman of Metropolitan Council mentioned that the Sofia Municipality continue its humanitarian initiative for early defibrillation – with the training of municipal employees from the Metropolitan and CGM and equipment with modern defibrillators at subway stations and public buildings.

He emphasized that “The First Three Minutes Foundation”, a charity organization for public benefit, has already conducted training for workers at the five busiest metro stations, as well as employees of the Metropolitan Inspectorate.

By the decision of the municipal council and at the suggestion of professor Ivo Petrov, the Sofia Municipality started with six emergency aid devices for cardiac arrhythmia, which is already a fact at 5 of the busiest stations – “Eagle Bridge”, “NDK”, “Serdika”, “Vasil Levski Stadium” and “Vitosha”.

They also provided a defibrillator to the Directorate of Emergency Assistance and Prevention to the Metropolitan Municipality. A company has donated another defibrillator to the Vitosha metro station, informed Chairman Georgiev through his official Facebook account.

Chairman Georgiev expect the delivery of 20 defibrillators, as predicted in the council decision. Thus, the Metropolitan Municipality will provide 14 more defibrillators at metro stations, four at municipal hospitals, two at the city library and the city art gallery.

He remarked that providing assistance in the first minutes is critical to the lives of people who have received cardiac arrest. The faster oxygen circulation is restored, the greater the chance of brain activity being restored. The probability of a person being saved is 70% if assistance is provided with defibrillation within the first minutes.
