Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Terrance Drew, Prime Minister and Minister of Health of St Kitts and Nevis informed through his social media account that a National Consultation on Mental Health was held at the Marriott Ballroom yesterday.
He noted that Mental health has emerged as a crucial topic that demands severe attention. That is why a National Consultation was held yesterday at the Marriott Ballroom to make people aware and acknowledge people taking care of their mental health.
The event was hosted by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Ministry of Health; this event served as a platform for a comprehensive discussion surrounding mental health.
With a focus on collaboration and practical solutions, the consultation aimed to bridge the gap between policies, practices, and the needs of our communities.
PM Terrance Drew, who also serves the nation as the Minister of Health, emphasizes that the government of St Kitts and Nevis is looking forward to developing various strategies to positively impact the mental health of St Kitts and Nevis.
He also appreciated the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) for hosting this event and acknowledging the people about the importance of taking care of mental health. PM Drew explained that Mental health affects everything, including how an individual thinks, feels, and acts.
At Marriott Ballroom, PM and Health Minister Drew said, “We believe that by coming together and engaging in meaningful dialogue, we can pave the way for actionable strategies that will positively impact mental health in our nation. Together, we can make a difference”.
He explained that not taking good care of mental health is the leading cause of bad relationships, being less social, physically weak, and less productive.
Minister Drew believes that raising awareness regarding mental health with PAHO’s assistance will improve the working capacity, relationships and several other factors related to daily life.
He explained that adding a few simple activities to daily routines can lead to better physical and mental health, such as exercising for 30 minutes daily, which can help boost the spirit and improve the individual’s health.
For better mental health, sleeping efficiently, practising relaxation activities, setting goals and priorities, focusing positivity and staying connected are simple techniques that can quickly improve mental health in less time.
The residents of St Kitts and Nevis appreciated the efforts of Prime Minister and Minister of Health Terrance Drew focusing on improving mental health. They asserted that it is a topic that really and truly needs much attention, expecting positive results from it.
