Haskovo, Bulgaria: The Haskovo Municipality informed through its social media account that on July 8, 2023, the foundation stone of a new Orthodox temple was laid today in the Haskovo village of Monastir.

The solemn water festival, personally served by Znepol Bishop Arseny, was attended by the Mayor of the Municipality of Haskovo Stanislav Dechev, his deputy Dinko Tenev, the Mayor of the Stoiko Kehayov Monastery, hundreds of residents and guests of the village.

Znepol Bishop Arseny conveyed the blessing of Plovdiv Metropolitan Nikolai to all laymen and expressed his deep gratitude to the Mayor of Haskovo, Stanislav Dechev, for always supporting the Bulgarian Orthodox Church morally and materially and in addition to being a guardian of the Faith, he is also part of the construction of the new temple.

The Vicar of Metropolitan Nikolai illuminated the site of the future church and announced that it would be named after Holy Martyr Sunday. Bishop Arseny laid in the foundations of the forthcoming altar a building stone, a candlestick and a glass with a document certifying today’s event. Signatures were signed under it by Mayor Stanislav Dechev, the Mayor of the Stoiko Kehayov Monastery and Bishop Arseniy.

So far, there has been no church in the village of Manastir. The idea for a temple was born four years ago, and on Friday, the first building stone was laid, and the first dig of the Church “Holy Sunday” in the village was made.

The residents of Haskovo appreciate the decision of Municipality to build a new Orthodox temple in village of Monastir. They noted that new Orthodox temples must be built, and the old ones needed to be restored and restored to let Faith in people not die and make the world better.
