PM Terrance Drew to read bills in National Assembly of St Kitts and Nevis

Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis, warmly welcomed all residents of the island nation to the National Assembly meeting, which will take place tomorrow on May 25, 2023, at 10 am in the National Assembly Chambers.

During the meeting, the prime minister will read several bills to advance the country’s government’s legislative agenda for good governance.

Prime Minister Terrance Drew posted greetings on his official Facebook page and invited his fellow citizens to attend the meeting via various internet channels, including radio and television.

Along with his other ministers, he gave an overview of the eight bills that would be read and discussed tomorrow in the National Assembly.

The Prime Minister underlined in his Facebook account that “The Government’s good governance legislative agenda continues as it commits itself to accountability, transparency, along with the Rule of Law,” underscoring the significance of the upcoming national assembly session. Two pieces of legislation will receive their second reading after eight other bills are mentioned in their first reading.

Additionally, the updates state that a number of senior government officials and lawmakers would attend the sitting, which will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 10:00 am at the National Assembly Chambers at Government Headquarters in Basseterre.

It was further claimed that a number of significant bills related to matters of national importance that need to be discussed and changed would be discussed during the national assembly session.

Prime Minister Drew also emphasised in his statements that “I am going to ask for leave to introduce and have read for the first time the Bills entitled Smoking (Designated Areas) Bill, 2023; Drugs, the focus is on preventing and reducing drug misuse and abuse; and Rastafari Rights Recognition Bill, 2023. (Amendment) Bill, 2023.”

The reports also indicated that the Attorney General and Minister in charge of Justice and Legal Affairs, Garth Wilkin, would request a leave of absence in order to introduce and read aloud for the first time the bills titled Nevis Island Administration (Civil Proceedings), Crown Proceedings (Amendment), Whistle-blowers Protection, Unauthorised Disclosure of Official Information, and Proceeds of Crime (Amendment) Bills in 2023.

PM Drew added that the Cabinet Members will support the Bills and make it easier for the citizens of the Caribbean country to profit from them during the national assembly meeting.
