On May 18, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Uganda Abubaker Jeje Odongo, who is in Moscow on a working visit. The meeting took place in a friendly and trust-based atmosphere traditional for Russian-Ugandan relations.
The Ministers discussed in detail critical areas for the further development of bilateral cooperation in various fields, with a focus on the need to consistently build up mutually beneficial trade, economic and investment partnerships and develop joint projects in energy, transport infrastructure, mining, agriculture, science, education, medicine and digital technologies.
The Foreign Ministers of Russia and Uganda held a detailed exchange of views on the most important topics on the global and regional agenda, including possible ways to help resolve conflicts in the “hot spots” on the African continent.
The Ugandan side was thoroughly updated on the progress of the special military operation. They agreed to strengthen interaction and coordination of steps taken by representatives of the two states at the UN and other international platforms.
Mr Lavrov and Mr Odongo signed a joint statement on no first placement of weapons in outer space. They also reviewed issues related to preparations for the second Russia-Africa Summit in St Petersburg this July.
