SOFIA, Bulgaria: The unemployment rate of Bulgaria witnessed a significant drop in June as per the official data released by the country’s Employment Agency on Friday, July 15, 2022.
The data showed that the unemployment rate of Bulgaria had reached its lowest level so far that the country has ever experienced the rate. Bulgaria recorded a 4.2 percent unemployment rate, and it fell 0.3 percentage points (pp) in June.
As per the official data, around 22,744 unemployed found a job with the help of labour offices in June. Moreover, it is 3,346 fewer than in the same month of 2021. However, it is still 7,865 more than in May 2022.
As many as 22,060 people were recorded as unemployed last month, which is an increase of 1,519 compared to June last year.
Various municipal programmes have also provided employment to the people, in which around 36 percent of the job positions were filled in June, which is followed by the processing industry with 13.7 percent. The retail sector also has witnessed growth of 11.4 percent.
At the end of June, there were 138,799 registered unemployed in Bulgaria overall – 8,678 fewer compared to May and 18.7% fewer than in June 2021.
There were 22,417 job vacancies registered with labour offices in the month under review, or a surge of 9,466 on May and an increase of 2,789 on the year, the monthly data from the agency showed.
The processing and hospitality industries accounted for the largest number of vacancies posted, 20.2% and 14.2% respectively.
