VALENCIA, SPAIN – Following recent catastrophic flooding in Valencia that has claimed over 150 lives, one Bulgarian citizen remains unaccounted for, while four others have been located safely, the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed.

Initial reports indicated that five Bulgarians had gone missing amid the extreme weather, but in a positive update, families of four individuals reported that their loved ones were found safe and unharmed, leaving only one Bulgarian still missing.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that the Consulate General in Valencia is collaborating closely with Spanish authorities in efforts to locate the remaining missing citizen. However, access to several affected areas remains restricted, complicating search and verification efforts.

In an official statement, Spanish authorities cautioned that it may take additional time to complete these checks due to the severe impact on local infrastructure and continued risks posed by water levels and debris.

Earlier in the day, Dr. Firas Alsharani provided insight into the identities of the missing Bulgarians, telling Nova TV that they included a truck driver and a woman who reportedly disappeared during the unprecedented flooding.

While some family members successfully reconnected with their loved ones, the search continues for the remaining individual.

The torrential rain and subsequent flooding across Valencia and other parts of Spain have resulted in widespread devastation, with fatalities now exceeding 150 people.

Thousands of residents were forced to evacuate their homes, and Spanish authorities have declared a state of emergency in numerous towns and cities affected by the disaster.

As authorities work to restore essential services and assist displaced residents, humanitarian aid organizations have mobilized to provide emergency relief.

The Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has emphasized its commitment to supporting families of missing citizens throughout this challenging time, expressing solidarity with the Spanish authorities and people affected by the disaster. Updates regarding the missing Bulgarian citizen will be provided as soon as further information is available.

For families and friends concerned about loved ones in the affected areas, the Bulgarian Consulate General in Valencia has set up a hotline and urged anyone unable to reach their relatives to contact consular staff.
