Burgas and Pavlodar finally twinned after two years of delay due to COVID-19

Burgas and the Kazakh city of Pavlodar signed a Memorandum of Twinning yesterday, on the Independence Day of Bulgaria. The two mayors of the two towns, Dimitar Nikolov and Asain Baikhanov, the mayor of Pavlodar, signed the agreement during a special ceremony.

His Excellency, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Bulgaria, was present for the signing. Bastian Temirtai Deputy Mayors Diana Savateva and Krasimir Stoychev, as well as Prof. Sevdalina Turmanova, the head of the municipal council, also spoke on behalf of the Municipality of Burgas.

Mayor Dimitrov said, ” I’m delighted that the Memorandum of twinning takes place on 22 September, on independence day, and we will take it as a good sign. The meeting was expected to take place two years ago, but we are unable to organize it due to COVID-19 sanctions. The combining between Burgas and Pavlodar will create new opportunities for cooperation in the field of economy, culture and education sector. I think this will be beneficial for both cities. Izbastin Temirtai, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to our nation, was the impetus for the signing of this Memorandum, for which I respectfully appreciate him”.

His excellence, Izbastin Temirtai emphasized, ” I’m pleased that the Memorandum of Twinning between Pavlodar and Burgas is being signed today. The relationship between Kazakhstan and Bulgaria is solid, and we consider your nation a significant partner from the Southeast European region. Our countries’ ties will advance to a greater level with your help”.

During the discussions between the two representatives, Asain Baikhanov pointed out that Pavlodar is home to more than 300 members of Kazakhstan’s largest Bulgarian population. It was established more than a century ago. Additionally, Pavlodar has significant economic potential, and the signed Memorandum will aid in both cities’ growth.

Dimitar Dimitrov, the football coach and the honourable citizen of both Burgas and Pavlodar, was also present at the meeting. He was the mentor of the Football club Irtysh. The club achieved great success under his leadership. Dimitrov considers Pavlodar as his second hometown.
