Sofia, Bulgaria: A recent report per an annual report on medical facilities for 2021 notes that the number of nurses in Bulgaria has witnessed a decline by 1730 between 2019 and 2021.
The data adds that in the year 2019, there were a total of 30,546 nurses in the Balkan state. This number was dropped to 29,160 in the year 2020 and to 28,816 in the last year – 2021.
There was a decline of 344 nurses between the time frame 2020 and 2021. The number also witnessed a drop from 42.2 in 2020 to 42.1 in 2021. However, the reason behind this significant decrease has not been stated in the reports.
Meanwhile, the data states that there were around 29 612 physicians in Bulgaria in 2019, which faced an increase to 29 717 in 2020 and decreased to 29 604 in 2021. The largest group of practising physicians in Bulgaria belonged to the age group of 55 to 64 years, computing for around 34.9%.
On the other hand, around 18.6% of the population of practising physicians in Bulgaria belonged to those aged more than 65 years, as per the data revealed by the National Statistical Institute (NSI).
The data then cites that till June 17, 2022, there are a total of 24,598 medical personnel in the Balkan state who tested positive for the contagious COVID-19 mutant. This number also includes the number of deceased doctors and other medical staff.
