Sofia, Bulgaria – Residents in three neighborhoods of the Bulgarian capital will face temporary water supply interruptions on Wednesday, July 23, as Sofiyska Voda conducts scheduled maintenance and diagnostic works aimed at enhancing the reliability of the city’s water distribution system.

The utility company announced that water supply will be suspended in parts of Detski Mir Street, Botunets, and Druzhba 1 throughout the day, with operations staggered across the different districts. If work in any area extends beyond the 12-hour mark, Sofiyska Voda will deploy water tankers to provide alternative access to drinking water.

In the area near Detski Mir Street, close to Cinema Center III, water will be shut off from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The disruption is due to the commissioning of a new street water main. If the work exceeds the scheduled hours, residents can collect water from a mobile tanker located across from building number 18 on Detski Mir Street.

Meanwhile, a broader outage will affect the Botunets district, where workers are replacing a critical stopcock on Zdravets Street. From 9:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m., residents of Zornitsa, Vitinya, Musala, and Izvor streets will experience suspended service.

Should construction extend beyond schedule, a water delivery truck will be stationed in front of block 6 on Zornitsa Street. In Druzhba 1, a diagnostic inspection of the water supply system along Prof. Tsvetan Lazarov Boulevard will also result in a prolonged water outage.

The interruption will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and impact several key locations, including Amsterdam Street (from Kopenhagen Boulevard to Dimitar Peshev Street), Dimitar Peshev Street (from Amsterdam to Prof. Lazarov), the Trolleybus Depot – Iskar, TPP Sofia Iztok, Bus Garage – Druzhba, and the Tarzhishte Sofia AD vegetable market. If necessary, water will be provided at the junction of Amsterdam Street and Dimitar Peshev Street.

The utility emphasized that these maintenance activities are part of ongoing efforts to modernize Sofia’s aging water infrastructure, enabling faster isolation of faults and minimizing future outages.

Sofiyska Voda has apologized for the inconvenience and advised customers to prepare in advance by storing water. Citizens can also register for SMS or email alerts via the company’s website and access live updates through the Virtual Information Center.
