Dominica: Thea Lafond-Gadson won first gold for her country at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Saturday. This historic win by Thea made Dominicans proud and elated them fully with emotions. Upon her win, Thea was congratulated by the Prime minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit.

Following this historic win, Thea Lafond has set new boundaries with her record of 15.02 metres. She was followed by Jamaica’s Shanieka Ricketts, who claimed silver for her nation by jumping 14.87 metres high. However, Jasmine Moore of USA achieved a bronze medal with a score of 14.67 metres.

Thea Lafond upon emerging victorious extended her gratitude towards her fans stating that “My phone is going crazy; I set it to do not disturb since I can’t even begin to look at it, but I am grateful. This is for all of my Dominicans” he specially thanked the Dominican authorities for their immense support throughout for making this dream come true not just for her but the entire nation.

“This would not have been possible without the support of Dominica Olympic Committee and Dominica Athletic Association. I further thank my family for their unwavering support towards my dreams, coming along with me to Paris to witness my win with naked eye. This definitely is a result of your support” she noted.

Notably, the prime minister Skerrit also phone called Thea Lafond upon her victory to congratulate her for this historic win. The Prime minister also shared that “Everyone in Dominica is overjoyed, and well-wishers from all around the world have messaged me.”

Apart from a phone call, the minster highlighted the win of the gold medallist on his social media where he noted that “On behalf of the government and people of Dominica, I express my heartfelt congratulations on capturing Dominica’s first Olympic medal, a gold medal in the women’s triple jump, a truly tremendous feat.”
