Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit extended his warm wishes to students as they embarked on another chapter in their lives with the commencement of the 2024/2025 academic session.

The Prime Minister noted the young children as the building blocks for a better tomorrow, noting, “I send all my warmest wishes to students as they return to their respective school this week. May they embrace new learning and work hard to build a very solid foundation for their futures.”

The Prime Minister cited hope that children have the ability to become engaged and valuable contributors to the development of society. He remarked that education enables all of these children to design their lives, explore their interests, pursue their passions, and discover their own distinctive voice in the world.

PM Skerrit also thanked the teachers and other personnel for their endurance and dedication towards creating safer and enjoyable learning spaces. He also prayed for patience, strength, and success for them along with parents, and guardians as they support the children’s growth and well-being.

“I also pray for patience, strength, and success for our teachers, parents, and guardians in their support of our children’s growth and wellbeing,” he said.

The Prime Minister ended up stating the children to have a fantastic school year ahead and extended his blessings to them.

Notably, prior to the start of the new academic session, Minister of Housing Melissa Skerrit hosted a Back-to-School program at Peebles Park to honour students with school supplies and scholarships and create an enjoyable experience for them ahead of their studies.

Melissa Poponne Skerrit, supports this initiative on a yearly basis through her Melissa Skerrit Foundation. The Foundation was created in 2016 and since then it has been aiming towards the betterment of the island nation and providing aid towards the needy.

This year, Minister Melissa Skerrit also distributed over 276 bag bundles with vital necessities to all pupils. She also celebrated the top National Assessment and CXC scorers and awarded tuition grants.
