Bulgarian sprinter Ivet Lalova-Collio is elected as one of the currently appointed six members of the twelve-member athletes of World Atheletic Commission. The election took place in Eugene in the 2022 World Athletic Championship hosted by Oregon.
As a surprise to the Bulgarian sports community, she secured 615 votes, the highest among all other athletes. Dutch sprinter Lisanne de Witte, Lea Sprunger of Switzerland, Canad’s Matthew Hughes, Toshikazu Yamanishi from Japan and Ukraine’s Anna Ryzhykova were other athletes chosen with her. Ivet Miroslalova Lalova-Collio is the thirteenth fastest woman in Bulgaria.
The outgoing and newly elected members will participate in hand-over this November. In an interview, Lolova said that as a daughter of two athletes, athletics had been part of her life . She continued to say that she’ll never forget the 100m final at the World Championships. As we al;l know, once Lolova stepped on the track, she had no coming back, and since then, she has been achieving unimaginable goals.
In addition, in her interview, she said that the voice of athletes has several times left unheard, which should be changed, and their voices should be echoed. She went on to say that everyone’s opinion matters, with that later she bid adieu.
Talking about her career, In 2016 Lalova recorded a season-best time of 22.57in the European athletics championship in Amsterdam, which was recorded a season-best time. Since then, she has improved her game time and made her way to being selected as one of the World Athletics Athletes’ Commission members.
The Bulgarian press considers it to be one of the most outstanding achievements in the sports community.
