Sofia, Bulgaria: The ministers of the Bulgarian government came together to deny that the European country is not supplying weapons to the war-torn country of Ukraine.

The statement of the Bulgarian ministers came after an article of Prime Minister Kiril Petkov was published by ‘The Guardian’ a few days back. The article highlights the fear of PM Petkov about the changing stance on Ukraine as the government fails the no-confidence motion.

He said that there are chances that Bulgaria might become a soft state.

The matter earlier has been raised several times, where some former ministers of the Defence Ministry claimed that Bulgaria is providing assistance to Ukraine by shipping weapons without letting anyone know.

Just after the day article was published, on June 24, Bulgaria’s government media office issued a statement citing that the Balkan state is sticking to its decision implemented on May 4, which is where the Cabinet agreed not to provide any weaponry aid to Ukraine but rather repair the equipment of the war-torn country in Bulgaria.

Meanwhile, the Defence Minister of the country, Dragomir Zakov, on June 25 and noted, “I haven’t read anything like this. Whatever I saw and witnessed in the media was more of a supplement to what he said. I saw that he said that we were exporting weapons to Poland and to allies. Look – we have a decision by the National Assembly”.

Clearing the air, he noted it was just a ‘speculation’ used in a term that weapons export from Bulgaria would fall if a ‘caretaker’ administration comes into power.

One of the members of the Cabinet from the Bulgarian Socialist Party, Georgi Gyokov, yesterday, in a statement cited that the country is not exporting any weapons to Ukraine.

Gyokov added, “What other nations do with the Bulgarian weapons they receive under contracts is their problem. I am tired of this matter circulating among the public. Anyone who claims something should show documents. The real facts show that the Cabinet, the National Assembly and anyone in our nation that has anything to do with weapons have made no such decision”.
