Sofia, Bulgaria: The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, once again has appreciated and thanked the Bulgarian government for the support and assistance it provided to the war-hit country.
This comes ahead of the European Council meeting in which discussions will be made on the bid of Ukraine to become a member state of the European Commission.
“Expressed gratitude to Bulgaria for the readiness to support granting our country the status of a candidate country for EU membership”, the Ukraine President stated.
The meeting of the European Council will be held from June 23 to 24. Despite this, the other matters which will be discussed during the council meeting are the consequences of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, particularly on food security, support of the EU to the war-hit country consisting of economic, military, political as well as humanitarian support.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, “With their applications, Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia are telling us that they want to change. They want more democracy, more freedoms and stronger reforms. They are telling us that they want Europe”.
“Ukraine is going through hell for a simple reason: its desire to join the EU. The EU Commission answered this desire explicitly. Our opinion acknowledges the immense progress that Ukraine’s democracy has achieved since the Maidan protests of 2014”, the President of the Commission further added.
EU is providing every possible assistance it can to the war-hit country. The war between Russia-Ukraine completed 119 days leading to the migration of millions of Ukraine refugees to the neighbouring countries.
On the other end, the regional WHO Director of Europe region, Hans Kluge, stated that if the investment is made people-centred, it ensures equity & financial protection and builds resilience, efficiency & accountability; only then the health sector of Ukraine will be strengthened.
