Sofia, Bulgaria: The Balkan state of Bulgaria and the Federal Republic of Germany had agreed that there be a requirement for coordinated measures and actions on the European level.

The decision comes after the Bulgarian Prime Minister, Kiril Petkov and Chancellor of Germany, Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz, held a meeting yesterday, June 11, in the capital city of Sofia.

PM Petkov called Germany its’ “strategic ally”. Providing information about the conference, she asserted, “I was pleased to welcome Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz. We have discussed energy security and independence and agreed on the need for coordinated measures and actions at the EU level. Germany is a strategic partner and a trusted ally; I look forward to constructive & active cooperation”.

Meanwhile, the German dignitary tweeted, “Clearly, the countries of the Western Balkans need a European perspective. Kiril Petkov and I know from our own history: Membership in the EU has mobilized many forces in our societies that are good: good for democracy and good for everyone to get together”.

Apart from this, the Bulgarian Prime Minister highlighted the need for both the states to continue working for the European Commission to become strong and resilient to future challenges, whether geopolitical, economic or social.

“With German Chancellor Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz, we have united around the understanding that only together can we achieve energy independence and security”, underscored PM Petkov.

In terms of diplomatic ties, both countries are equally strategically important to each other. More than 400,000 Bulgarian diasporas at the present time are residing in Germany.

Besides this, Germany is the leading economic partner of Bulgaria. The German firms are among the largest foreign investors in the European country, & the German-Bulgarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce is the biggest foreign chamber in Bulgaria.

German tourists are among the target group for the Balkan state of Bulgaria.
